Banned Books at Sandman
Every day, around the world - even in the US - people try to ban books. Not just "trashy" ones, either. Within the last five years, for example, some school districts in America have tried to ban Huckleberry Finn. Unfortunately, censorship is alive and well across the globe. Help us do something about it!
In order to raise awareness and fight for the right to read, the ALA celebrates "Banned Books Week" each September, when they work together with the literary community to promote the very books which have been challenged.
We are deeply passionate about Banned Books Week, and we keep our display up 365 days a year in order to help raise awareness of this threat that still exist in the word. It may seem like a crazy story from a dystopian novel, or a historical oddity from the dark ages... but censorship is REAL. Fight for the right to read! Devour a banned book today!
